American made shotguns of this quality are extremely rare. Shaeffer was a Boston-based best quality maker in the mid 1800's. The quality of the gun is obvious. I have owned it since 1960, had it jug choked and shot competition with it until the 1980's. It has had the best of care over the years. It has only a few use marks, the Damascus and Case hardening colors as still bright, bores are excellent. The only problem is a slight distortion of the barrel end on the left, but that doesn't seem to bother the patterns any. I won lots of medals with it back in the day.
